Railway-related channels show that starting March 14, 2026, the Wuhan Railway Bureau will upgrade a batch of previously non-air-conditioned conventional trains shuttling within Wuhan and nearby cities to a “loop line” routing, linking Wuhan’s major conventional rail hub stations, with the operating section adjusted to Wuhan East—Wuhan East. This is also the first time the Wuhan Railway Bureau has operated an urban conventional rail loop train within Wuhan, with an end-to-end travel time of about 1 hour 50 minutes.

However, how this loop service forms a complete circle is still hard to determine from the stops alone. The predecessors of these loop services include trains departing Wuhan East for Hankou, stopping at Wuchang en route, and then crossing the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge to Hankou. Given the geographical layout of Wuhan’s three towns, the connection between Wuhan East and Hankou for the loop trains will most likely be completed via the Tianxingzhou Yangtze River Bridge.

This means that in the full journey of less than two hours, these loop trains will cross the Yangtze River twice. Meanwhile, because they are non-air-conditioned trains, the fares for this batch of temporary services remain very cost-effective: a full loop ride costs only 6 yuan. By contrast, taking Wuhan Metro Line 2 from Wuhan East Station to Hankou Station alone costs 7 yuan and takes about an hour; the travel times are not much different. But what the railway side still lacks is flexibility—only 4 trains per day, real-name ticketing is required for the specific service, ticket checking stops just minutes before departure… but at least it adds another travel experience.
